Do what he says and see what he does.
One of the highest compliments you can give a dog owner is that their pup is obedient, immediately following the commands of the human who takes care of them.
One of the highest compliments you can give a parent is that their children are obedient and respectful, immediately acting in accordance with the standards of the loving parents who take care of them.
But when was the last time you met an adult who saw their obedience as a compliment? In fact, have you noticed that more often that not, it’s only those who chart their own path and go their own way that we compliment and aspire to be like?
There are a lot of words you can’t say in our culture because they are or have become highly offensive, and obedience is one of them. Yet, for followers of Jesus, to be seen as obedient to his words and his ways is the highest ideal and the highest compliment we can receive. In the inaugural message of our series Real, we see how Peter’s obedience to Jesus leads to blessing, most importantly, the blessing of being with Jesus.
Other texts in this message: Exodus 3:6, Ezekiel 1:28, Job 42:5-6, Isaiah 6:5
