SPEAKER: Troy Champ

What do you take seriously? Maybe it’s your education, health, kids, or your career. We are all busy people, but Jesus asks us to take our soul seriously. You’re probably working to make money. You’re probably working to stay healthy. But what are you doing to grow closer to Jesus? What are you doing to increase your love of God and love of others? Spiritual disciplines are activities in our everyday lives that bring us closer to God, who empowers us to love Him and love others more. It might be reading your Bible, worship, or coming to church. We can’t change our souls on our own, but owning our faith means we grow in grace by doing things that bring us closer to Jesus.

HOMEWORK

Put a discipleship program together. Put it in your planner. If needed, rearrange your schedule to carve out time for solitude. Brainstorm ways you can incorporate discipleship into the key areas of your life.

Book Recommendations:

“Spiritual Disciplines Handbook” by Adele Calhoun; this book gives brief descriptions of dozens of disciplines and shows you how to put them into practice.

“The Life You’ve Always Wanted” by John Ortberg; this book gives a simple but powerful introduction to spiritual disciples.

“The Me I Want to Be” by John Ortberg; this is a great book on spiritual formation.
