In 2007, Capital Church partnered with Children’s HopeChest and became the official sponsor of the Mhkombokati Care Point in Swaziland, Africa. The situation in Swaziland is dire. Statistics suggest that by 2010 Swaziland could be home to 120,000 orphans in a population of just over a million people (an astonishing 10% of the population without parents). The main cause for such a high number of orphans is the HIV/AIDS crisis which is quickly wiping out an entire generation.

The AIDS rate in Swaziland is the highest in the world where 43.6% of the population is infected and where life expectancy is currently only 32 years of age. The Mhkombokati Care Point serves approximately 75 children, most of whom are orphans and specifically rely on the Care Point for food.

Our partnership and support of Mhkombokati includes the following:

SPONSORSHIP OF CHILDREN
The mission of this sponsorship ministry is to give orphans an opportunity to know God, experience the blessing of family and acquire the skills necessary for an independent life. Members of Capital Church have sponsored 66 children at the Care Point, committing to offering financial support, to praying for them consistently and to writing to them quarterly.

BUILDING PROJECTS
Through the generosity of members at Capital, funds were also raised to offer resources for various building projects and structures to provide safe and clean food and water preparation.

TEAM SWAZILAND: THE FIRST MISSION TRIP
Sixteen members of Capital Church journeyed to Mkhombokati in March 2008 as part of Capital’s first mission trip to Swaziland. They brought approximately 500 pounds of educational, medical and hygiene-related products. They hosted a daily ‘bible school’ and spent eight days simply being the hands and feet of Jesus in any way they could and offered the simple gifts of hope, comfort and love.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROJECT
Located on the West side of SLC, an area where over 90 languages are spoken, the Dream Center is surrounded by a community of poverty, addictions, and gangs. The Center’s vision is to allow those in their community to think outside the poverty mentality and to teach them how to assimilate into a productive life. Capital has partnered with the Dream Center as part of a new local outreach ministry. Email info@capitalchurch.com to get involved.

mmu

The Dream Center partners with Utah Partners for Health to operate a Mobile Medical Unit that is staffed by volunteer medical professionals and provides basic medical needs to those with little money and no insurance. If you are interested in participating or want more information, please email us at info@capitalchurch.com. Monetary donations are also welcome.

mission

From the day we received our first financial contribution, we made a commitment to tithe (10%) of our undesignated donations to ministries outside our church community. Beyond our partnership with the Children’s HopeChest, each month Capital supports various organizations and missionaries who show the love of Jesus throughout the United States and around the world.
