beliefs

We believe in the Bible.
(Proverbs 30:5; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:16-21) The Bible is the completely true story of God. In it we learn about who God is, what he has done, what he is doing, and what he will do. We also discover his plans for us and the life he wants us to live. The Bible comes to us from God by way of human writers, whose influence can be seen in areas of culture, style, and language. But because the Bible comes from God, it is unlike any other book every written, without error and having final authority on all matters to which it speaks.

We believe in the God of the Bible.
(Gen 1:1,26-27; Mt 3:16-17; 1 Pet 1:2; 2 Cor 13:14) There is only one God. In the Bible we discover that he exists as three persons living in perfect community–Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God created everything and sustains everything by his life. He is holy, all powerful, all-knowing, and unchanging; yet at his core, God is loving and gracious. He invites us to enjoy friendship with him and life that is rich and eternal.

We believe in Jesus Christ, God’s Son.
(Is 9:6-7; Jn 1:1-5; 3:16; Rom 1:3-4; 3:23; Eph 2:8-9; 1 Cor 15:3-6) From its earliest days humanity has repeatedly rejected the friendship and life of God. This rejection distances us from him and denies us what he desires for us. In an effort to end the separation and restore the relationship, Jesus Christ, himself fully God, entered the world by being born as a fully human man. Jesus called all people to return to God, and he perfectly demonstrated what a life of unbroken relationship with God looks like. Then, through his death and return to life he removed the obstacles that separated us from God. Now Jesus sits in heaven with the Father, representing us, praying for us, and waiting for the time when he will return to his people on Earth. Those who follow him have the promise of eternal life.

We believe in the Holy Spirit.
(Gen 1:1; Jn 14:16-17; 16:7-13; Acts 1:8; Gal 5:16-26) God is at work in the world today through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit calls all people to return to God and enjoy the eternal life made available through Jesus. He is at work within us, teaching us the truth and applying God’s work in our lives. And he is the one who equips us with the gifts and power we need to partner with God in his plans for the world.

We believe in the Church.
(Mt 28:18-20; Acts 2:42-47; Rom 12:1-8; Heb 10:24-25) The Church is the worldwide community of people who live as followers of Christ. The Church is called by God to serve in the fulfillment of his loving vision for the universe. Capital is one local expression of this worldwide community. We gather regularly to worship, to encourage one another, and to use our time, talents, and resources to extend God’s love to others.
